KUCHING (3rd November) – The renowned bidar boat, Puteri Dang Balai, representing Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation), has once again clinched the coveted Raja Sungai title at the Sarawak Regatta 2024. This marks its third consecutive victory, sealing an impressive ‘hattrick’ achievement in Malaysia’s prestigious river race.
In a gripping finale, Puteri Dang Balai faced stiff competition from another top-tier contender, LANDAS Kasihnya Warisan. The narrow margin between the two boats had spectators on edge as the rowers battled fiercely in the Sarawak River. However, Puteri Dang Balai managed to pull ahead, earning them the top prize of RM30,000 in cash and a trophy, while LANDAS Kasihnya Warisan finished a close second, securing RM20,000 and a trophy for their commendable performance.
Despite finishing behind the two frontrunners, the Udak bidar boat team displayed exceptional resilience, placing third in the race and taking home RM10,000 and a trophy. The achievement was a testament to the team’s dedication and skill, further energizing the spirit of the regatta.
The prestigious event was made even more memorable by the presence of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who graced the prize-giving ceremony. His Majesty’s participation added a royal touch to the celebratory atmosphere, delighting both participants and spectators.
Sarawak Regatta 2024 was also attended by several distinguished figures, including Sarawak State President Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Ja’afar, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, and various other dignitaries and state ministers. Their presence underscored the importance of the regatta in celebrating Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and fostering unity through sports.
