A Landmark Year for the Rainforest World Music Festival

KUCHING: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 has shattered previous attendance records, drawing over 26,000 visitors to the vibrant and eclectic event. This remarkable milestone marks the highest turnout since the festival’s inception, solidifying its status as a premier global music event.

Record-Breaking Numbers

Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced the impressive figures, highlighting the festival’s unprecedented success. The previous record, set in 2019 with 23,000 visitors, was surpassed by a significant margin.

“So far this year, we have reached more than 26,000 visitors and it continues to increase. There is a possibility that the number will even reach 30,000 visitors this year,” Abdul Karim stated during a press conference on the festival’s third day.

A 35% Surge in Attendance

The 2024 edition of RWMF saw a 35% increase in attendance compared to the previous year, contributing to a 47% boost in ticket sales revenue. Abdul Karim attributed this surge to the festival’s diverse lineup, which included a Grammy Award winner and 22 acts from 14 countries across six continents.

The Perfect Duration: Three Days of Music and Culture

Despite the festival’s growing popularity, Abdul Karim confirmed that the event would not extend beyond its current three-day format.

“I think three days is good enough as it is held during the weekend. If we have to extend it to four days, that means that we have to take one more working day. So I think that three days is just nice,” he explained.
