KUCHING, Sept 5 – Kuching residents are encouraged to participate in the monthly Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony this coming Sunday, September 8, at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi. This significant event, aimed at celebrating Sarawak’s sovereignty and unity, will be officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Monthly Ibu Pertiwi Flag-Raising Ceremony: A Celebration of Sarawak’s Sovereignty

The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony, held every month, serves as a tribute to the Ibu Pertiwi flag—an emblem of Sarawak’s sovereignty. This patriotic event symbolizes the greatness and unity of the state, showcasing the red, black, and yellow colors that represent Sarawak’s rich history and diverse culture.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who will officiate the event, expressed the importance of the flag-raising ceremony in fostering a sense of pride among Sarawakians.

“The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony held every month is a sign of our respect for the symbol of Sarawak’s sovereignty. Ibu Pertiwi brings the meaning of sovereignty to Sarawak in addition to showing the greatness of the state of Sarawak with the red, black, and yellow flag,” stated Uggah.

Kuching Residents Invited to Attend and Show Support

Residents of Kuching and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the flag-raising ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, which will begin promptly at 8:00 am. The event is open to all, and residents are encouraged to bring their families to experience this unique display of patriotism.

The monthly ceremony, which commenced earlier this year, aims to unite Kuching’s diverse community and instill a sense of pride in Sarawak’s heritage. By participating, residents can play a part in a larger initiative to promote Kuching as a clean, sustainable, and resilient city.

A New Tradition: Dataran Ibu Pertiwi as a Tourist Attraction

On July 28, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony would be held on the first week of each month. The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) will be responsible for organizing the event.

Abang Johari highlighted the significance of Dataran Ibu Pertiwi as not only a place of patriotic pride but also a growing tourist attraction in Kuching City. The ceremony contributes to the government’s vision of making Kuching a global city known for its cultural richness, vibrant traditions, and environmental sustainability.

“Dataran Ibu Pertiwi is part of a larger initiative to transform Kuching into a clean, sustainable, and resilient urban area. It’s not just a flag-raising ceremony; it’s about showcasing our identity and our commitment to Sarawak’s future,” said Abang Johari.

To attend the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony, residents are advised to arrive early at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi. The ceremony will begin with an official welcome followed by the raising of the Ibu Pertiwi flag at 8:00 am sharp.

Participants are encouraged to wear Sarawak’s traditional colors or their favorite patriotic attire. There will be light refreshments and opportunities for residents to interact with community leaders and learn more about the significance of the Ibu Pertiwi flag.

Why the Ibu Pertiwi Ceremony Matters to Sarawakians

The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony is more than just a routine event; it is a reminder of Sarawak’s journey towards self-determination, unity, and resilience. As the state continues to develop, such ceremonies foster a sense of belonging and pride among its people.
