Today, in conjunction with the 15th day of the ninth lunar month, SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Section hosted a successful free vegetarian meal distribution at Padungan. At exactly 11:30 am, 100 packets of vegetarian fried noodles and beehoon were handed out to the public at South Asia (Ong Kee) Trading Sdn Bhd, located opposite the Padungan Police Station.
City Councillor Eric Tay Tze Kok led the event, supported by members of KMKK and JKKK, who worked together to provide the community with a nutritious vegetarian meal. Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dr. Sim Kui Hian, also extended his appreciation for the event and shared a personal story on social media about his own family’s tradition of observing vegetarian days, reminiscing on how his father could only afford meat twice a month.
SUPP Kuching’s thoughtful initiative reflects a growing trend in Kuching, where free vegetarian meals are becoming more accessible, reinforcing the spirit of giving and community care. Padungan’s OCS Tuan Enix Goh also joined the event, warmly engaging with community members.
The event was a success, with all 100 meal packets distributed within minutes, demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm and support for such meaningful gatherings.
