MIRI (Jan 10): A dramatic rescue unfolded last night as firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) swiftly captured an enormous escaped albino python in Taman Greenville, Desa Senadin.
The incident began when the snake’s owner alerted Lutong Fire Station at 8.29pm about the reptile’s unexpected outdoor adventure. The location, just 7km from the station, became the scene of an unusual rescue operation.
According to Lutong Fire Station chief Henry Jugah, the snake had managed to escape from its cage, leaving the owner in need of professional help.
“Our team arrived promptly at the site and was informed that the escaped pet was a rare albino python,” Henry shared in a statement.
Using a snake snare, the firefighters successfully secured the reptile, which measured an impressive 10 feet in length and weighed 30kg.
Henry added that the python, being classified as a protected animal, was handed over to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for appropriate care and management.
While pet snakes are not uncommon, owners are reminded to ensure secure housing for their exotic pets to avoid incidents like this. The swift response of the firefighters not only ensured the safety of the python but also averted any potential risks to the community.
