KUCHING, March 22 – A woman was rescued from Rh Ambrose Ramping in Selangau this morning after floodwaters surged to nearly 10 feet. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has been actively carrying out rescue operations as floods continue to affect multiple districts across the state.
Bomba received the emergency call at 9:00 am and quickly dispatched a team from the Selangau Fire Station to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the water level dangerously high, reaching the longhouse’s veranda.
“A team of seven firefighters, assisted by two additional personnel, successfully evacuated the woman using a rescue boat,” Bomba reported.

She was then transported to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Dewan Serbaguna Selangau.
More Evacuations as Flooding Spreads
In Kanowit, three individuals, including a senior citizen and two women, were rescued this morning after floodwaters rose to two meters. Firefighters from the Kanowit station, along with police personnel, used a rescue boat to transport the victims to the PPS at Kompleks Sukan Kanowit.
Yesterday (March 21), 13 people, including a person with disabilities, were evacuated after floodwaters submerged parts of Jalan Aping and Jalan Kong Yit Khing in Sibu. Firefighters conducted three rounds of evacuations, transporting four men, eight women, and one disabled individual to the PPS at Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya.
Residents of Pulau Dudong and Song Also Affected
Additionally, 19 residents of Rh Ngelai, Pulau Dudong, were evacuated after floodwaters reached five feet, making roads impassable. The evacuees, consisting of seven women, two elderly women, six boys, and four girls, were moved to the PPS at Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya.
In Song, 58 people from four areas—Rumah Kelau, Kampung Mission, Sungai Selirik, and Kampung Gelam—were transported to Dewan Masyarakat Daerah Song for safety as rising waters posed a threat.

Bomba continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring swift action in affected areas. With water levels rising in multiple locations, residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
