Young Man Dies in Sibu After Car Crashes Into Electric Pole

SIBU, 24 February A tragic accident took the life of a 24-year-old man when his car skidded and crashed into an electric pole on Jalan Awang Ramli Amit late last night.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, confirmed that the accident happened around 11pm. The victim was driving a Perodua Kancil when he reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer onto the road divider before hitting an electric pole and a streetlight pole. The impact caused the car to overturn and land on the left side of the road.

“The victim was confirmed dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car was speeding before it skidded and crashed,” ACP Zulkipli said in a media statement today.

Authorities are still investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless driving resulting in death.

The tragic accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, especially on urban roads. Drivers are urged to stay cautious and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar tragedies.

The police have urged witnesses or anyone with information regarding the accident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
