Police Advice to the Public
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has strongly advised the public to be extra careful and never hand over their ATM cards, bank accounts, or banking information to anyone. This is especially important when dealing with suspicious parties offering loans or asking to use personal bank accounts for money transfers.
If anyone falls victim to such scams, they are urged to contact the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) immediately at 997. This is especially crucial if money has already been transferred to a suspicious account or e-wallet.
Additionally, the public can check phone numbers and bank accounts through the official Semak Mule website (http://semakmule.rmp.gov.my) before making any financial transactions. To further enhance protection, the police recommend downloading the Whoscall app from Google Play Store or Apple Store. This app works closely with PDRM’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK), allowing users to identify numbers linked to scam activities directly from their phones.
For the latest updates on scam tactics and criminal activities, the public can follow the Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department’s Facebook page.
ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, Miri District Police Chief, also reminded the public that scams are constantly evolving, and staying informed is the best protection. — Polis Daerah Miri
