Abdul Karim Applauds Community Efforts
Speaking to reporters after flagging off the run, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim praised Blessed Church for their dedication to organizing an event that united people in celebration.
“I really enjoyed it (the run), although I have just walked about more than a kilometre,” said Abdul Karim with a smile. “I want to congratulate the organiser for doing a very good job as I can see that most of those who are involved in the run and related activities are youths. These are the kinds of efforts that we have been trying to do through the Ministry, making sure that the youth are well looked after.”
Abdul Karim emphasized the importance of such events in guiding the younger generation, especially given the challenges posed by social problems like drug addiction.
“It’s not easy to look after the youth, I know, because I’m looking after the youth also through the Ministry,” he noted. “Hence, we need more people who are able to mould the youth into good citizens. I can see that the Blessed Church is very committed and dedicated to this.”
A Moment of Patriotism
Abdul Karim was particularly moved when the crowd sang the ‘Sejahtera Malaysia’ song during the event, adding a touch of patriotism to the festivities.
“Through this, the event is beyond bringing people together; it also strengthens our sense of patriotism,” he said.
Blessed Church’s Vision for the Future
A Community United in Faith and Fitness
Blessed Church Pastor Lim Gee Tiong spoke about the multiple objectives behind the Blessed Run, which goes beyond a simple race.
“The event serves as a family, promotes healthy activities among the youth, fosters patriotism, and raises funds for the church’s building project, which will cost more than RM70 million,” said Pastor Lim.
He expressed gratitude for the support received from the government, particularly in approving their applications, and voiced hope for continued support from the Sarawak government.
“But best of all, I think, we are here to share the joy and love with the city of Kuching, with the people of Sarawak,” he added.
