Sibu, Nov 8 – A 44-year-old man arrested in connection with the shocking case of a newborn boy being abandoned on Jalan Tong Sang last week has now been charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Siaw Chung Ming, was presented before the Magistrates’ Court today, where he faced a charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code. This section provides for a penalty of 10 to 30 years in prison and caning upon conviction.
According to the charge, Siaw is accused of raping the 14-year-old girl between March and October 2024 at a rented house on Jalan Tong Sang. Magistrate Romario Jonoi ruled that no plea would be taken at this stage, as the case will be transferred to the Sessions Court on November 18 for further proceedings.
Siaw was granted bail in the amount of RM8,000, which must be secured with two local sureties. Additionally, he has been ordered to report to the investigation officer on the first day of each month as part of his bail conditions.
The prosecution is led by ASP Siti Mariyah Dahari, while Siaw appeared in court without legal representation. The case has raised serious concerns in the local community, with residents shaken by the double impact of the baby dumping and the rape charge.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into both the baby dumping incident and the rape allegations, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the case.
