“The victim reportedly went fishing at Sungai Sageng but has not come back since then. Concerned members of the public later found his boat and fishing equipment in Sungai Segali,” the spokesperson said in a statement today.

In response, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched today, focusing on the Batang Sadong River, covering a five-kilometre radius using the surface search method. However, as of now, the victim has yet to be found.

“The operation, which started earlier today, was conducted along the Batang Sadong River, covering an extensive area. Unfortunately, there have been no positive developments in locating the missing individual,” the spokesperson added.

As evening approached, authorities decided to suspend the SAR operation at 5pm due to safety concerns and limited visibility. The search is set to resume tomorrow at 8am, with rescue teams continuing their efforts to locate the missing fisherman.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact local authorities to assist in the search.
